Some More CRG Updates
I'm practicing three days a week, working two jobs, studying for my LSATs, and trying to work on some music, which hasn't happened in a few years. Blogging has fallen by the wayside because of that, and I do apologize to anyone who might be missing out on some roller derby updates. (To be honest, though, this blog gets five viewers on a good day, so you probably don't really care that much.)
Since the last time I wrote, the Cincinnati Rollergirls have played some very important and exciting games. On Saturday, August 22, both Cincy teams traveled to Pittsburgh to take on the Steel City Derby Demons. It was my first away game of the season (spectating, not playing) and I drove up with fellow CRG rookie Bangin' Brunette, making it to the venue with just minutes before the bout began (thank you interstate construction!). Steel City's B-Unit gave the Silent Lambs a massive hard time throughout the bout, staying in the lead from the very beginning. The Silent Lambs kept the margin narrow, though, and in the second-to-last jam Polly Rocket scored enough points to put CRG up by two points. Then, in the last jam, Cherry Choke scored a final three points for the win: Silent Lambs 97, B-Unit 92.

The Black Sheep then went up against Steel City's Steel Hurtin'. They jumped to an early lead and never gave it up. They won 127-106.

The afterparty was far and away won by CRG. They eventually had to turn the lights on in the bar and kick us out. We then continued the party at the hotel. It was the celebration that didn't want to end.
A couple of weeks ago, on September 6th, the Black Sheep took on the Arch Rival Rollergirls in St. Louis. Both teams played a 20-player roster and the game was unsanctioned; more like a pre-Brawl of America test to see who would beat who. The Black Sheep squeaked out a victory 64-63. The two teams later played in the first round of the North Central regionals, Brawl of America, to which I will devote a separate post.
Also, I'd like to congratulate two of my teammates, Mae C. Stars and Ruffin' The Passer, on their impending babies. I hope they don't mind me calling them out like this, but we are all so happy and excited for them, and we can't wait to have them back next season!
