Post-Bout Practice
There are two things I love about having a bout:
1) There is no practice the next day (although I usually want to skate, and then end up skating down a bike trail somewhere).
2) The next practice is mostly spent going over strategy, meaning resting and listening to the coaching staff for 3/4 of the practice.
I was really looking forward to an easy practice to rest the shins, but I was really wrong. We worked hard today! I did get one of my wishes, though. I've really been wanting to work on my hitting, especially my timing. We did exactly that. Yay!
I think the funniest thing is when a shorter girl goes in for a hit on a taller girl. I was up against Candy Kicka$$, who is quite a bit taller than me. I like to get as low as possible, so I think I probably hit her in the butt with my shoulder. The second hit I completely missed and sailed right in front of her!
I'd like to thank Mae C. Stars for hitting me much harder than I expected. It probably looked like a bad hit, but in reality it was pretty fun (and not painful at all, surprisingly). As a rookie, it is really an honor for a veteran to hit you with full force. I'm very proud to be trusted enough to take a hit like that and not break anything.
Speaking of breaking things, Vixen da Slaya is back! She's been out with a broken tailbone for a few weeks, and it is so great to have a fellow rookie back on the track. We have two new ladies, Pistol Whippin' Wendy and Veronica (name TBD). Wendy's skated on another team in the past, and Veronica has a lot of skill. It's really weird, I feel as though I should be threatened by so many new people coming into the team, but in reality I'm really happy. It's great to have other people to learn things with. I think I would be much more unhappy if I was the only newbie, even if it guaranteed me a spot on the roster for every bout. I think that once I earn a spot on a roster it will feel much more satisfying than if the opportunity was just handed to me.
Switching gears again, I feel the need to write a retraction. The Librarian did not grope everyone at the after-party on Saturday. I was exaggerating a little. But there are pictures of her shenanigans and the shenanigans of many other people!
